Artist in Residence
Longer school visits, from two days to three weeks (or more) may be booked.
Workshops for single and double classrooms are available in the domains of
animation, drawing, painting, printmaking and mural making. Residencies
may also integrate art with language arts, social studies, math,
multicultural study and science. Each residency will be designed to respond
to the specific needs and wants of a particular school community. For
example, first and second graders at Forest Hills Elementary (Lake Oswego,
Oregon) recently created garden pictures that showed a sophisticated understanding of plant growth. Third and fourth graders created prints of animals from a variety of phyla (amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals) while fifth and sixth graders developed a deeper understanding of geometry and spatial thinking by producing imaginative arrangements of cones, cylinders, spheres, pyramids and cubes.
